Acne Treatment

Acne is one of the most widespread skin diseases affecting people of all ages. Characterised by blackheads, comedones (closed whiteheads), pustules and inflammation, around 85% of all people will suffer from acne at some point in their lives. For many, the symptoms are varied and short-lived. However, up to 40% of patients experience clinical acne, a stubborn acne that persists for a much longer period of time. Clinical acne is marred with extensive outbreaks and widespread inflammation on the face, neck and body.  Extensive medical intervention is needed to treat clinical acne and to relieve symptoms with minimal scarring by acne treatment.

What Is Acne?

Acne is a skin disease that occurs mainly during adolescence, where hormonal fluctuations are high, but is also an ongoing problem for many adults. It is manifested by whiteheads, blackheads and other types of spots, as well as oily skin and chronic inflammation. Acne is classified into numerous categories depending on the type of spots and severity of the affected areas. Various levels of treatment are available for each type, although the response varies widely.

What Causes Acne?

There are a variety of risk factors that play a role in the development of acne. In most cases, over functioning sebaceous glands and keratinisation, the blocking of hair follicles with hardened skin, is a key trigger. However, genetic predisposition, fluctuating hormones, diet and stress can also all play major roles.

Consultation With A Dermatologist

A prerequisite for the successful treatment of acne is a clear diagnosis. Our expert dermatologist will make a thorough assessment during your initial consultation and a recommended treatment plan, specific to your individual needs, will be developed.

Acne Treatment Options At NEO Health Clinic

The benefit of being treated at NEO is that we have an expansive laser suite with the latest technology and all therapies can be performed under one roof. Your dermatologist will work with you to make a bespoke treatment plan which may begin with medication and lifestyle changes and progress to include more invasive treatment options for optimal results.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy and light therapy is quite often the most beneficial line of treatment for acne, especially for mild and moderate cases. Use of various wavelengths of controlled light or laser energy, as seen with the M22 laser or IPL, can penetrate deep within the pores and dermal layers of the skin. This can effectively eliminate bacteria, reduce inflammation and oil production and increase blood flow to encourage cell turnover and remove toxins from the skin.

Carbon Laser Facial

This deep cleansing facial has been clinically proven to minimise pores, reduce inflammation and eliminate bacteria residing deep within the pores of the skin. Combining advanced laser technology with nanoparticles of carbon, this innovative treatment is able to reach depths that topical cleanses alone simply cannot reach. A series of 4-6 treatments, followed by regular follow-up sessions is generally required for sustained results.

Chemical Facials Peels

Chemical peels and acid treatments contain active ingredients such as fruit acid (AHA) or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) that penetrate into the tissue and remove the very top layers of skin. The skin resurfacing via peeling effectively unclogs pores and stimulates remodelling of the skin, relieving the symptoms of acne.

Microdermabrasion

Blackheads and acne breakouts can be reduced using microdermabrasion techniques. Diamond or crystal tips are used to mechanically remove the outermost layer of the skin and a vacuum effect physically draws out dirt, debris and other impurities from deep within the pores. When paired with Mesotherapy treatments, the additional anti-acne serums and topical ointments used can penetrate deeper and increase their efficiency.

Treating Acne Scarring

In severe cases, acne can leave permanent scars that do not fade, even years after the acne has been treated. Usually, such acne scars develop either when a severe form of acne occurs or when blackheads and pimples are physically squeezed or popped. This inadvertently causes inflammation and damage to the underlying connective tissue and often results in infection, exacerbating the acne further. Treatment options available to treat acne scarring are similar to treating acne itself and include:
• Laser treatment and photo therapy
• Microneedling
• Microdermabrasion
• Dermal Fillers
• Chemical Peels
