What Is Radiesse Dermal Filler?

Radiesse is a non-permanent, calcium-based dermal filler with both volumising and skin remodelling principals. Consisting of small microspheres of Calcium Hydroxlapatite (CaHA) suspended in a soft gel solution, it has gained recent popularity within the field of aesthetic medicine. Here, it is used to treat the signs of ageing for both hands and face by restoring collagen and actively promoting deep tissue remodelling.

How does Radiesse Filler Work?

Radiesse is the first dermal filler that was specifically designed to not only provide treated areas with a volumising lift, but to also give the skin a deep rejuvenating boost from within. By restoring collagen levels whilst simultaneously encouraging the body to rebuild its own, enhanced cellular scaffolding, an enhanced structural support within the deep dermal layers can be achieved. With this additional structural strength, skin is natural firmed and tightened, fine lines and wrinkles are reduced and the skin receives a natural, revitalising lift.

How Does Radiesse Compare To Hyaluronic Acid-Based Dermal Fillers?

The main method of action for hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers is to provide the treated area with additional volume. The hydrating effects of the hyaluronic acid itself, is simple an added bonus. With Radiesse however, it is the first dermal filler that was designed by researchers to have two specific principal modes of action – volumising and deep rejuvenation.

Radiesse is also a long-lasting filler and has a much longer lifespan that other hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. However, once injected, unlike fillers like Restylane or Juvederm that can be broken down with Hyaluronidase, the results of Radiesse cannot be reversed.

Full consideration should therefore go into deciding between Radiesse or hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Our experienced experts will be able to give you a full overview of each type of dermal filler to help you make your decision.

What Can Radiesse Treat?

The dual volumising and rejuvenating properties of Radiesse make it very versatile and effective in treating a wide range of aesthetic problem areas. With varying dilution levels possible, popular treatments of Radiesse include:

• Smoothing and softening of mild to moderate lines and wrinkles
• Lifting, volumizing and tightening the skin of the face and hands
• Thickening the skin via bio-remodelling mechanisms
• Contouring and sculpting facial features such as cheeks and jaw
• Scar reduction
• Rejuvenation and general improvement in skin health

When Can I Expect To See The Results From The Radiesse Filler?

Patients will see an immediate lifting and tightening of the skin from the first application of Radiesse. Approximately four weeks following treatment, an improvement in the tone and texture can be seen. The full rejuvenation results are visible up to 12-18 months after a full series of treatments.

Is Radiesse Safe?

Radiesse has a very high safety profile. The active ingredient, calcium hydroxylapatite, is a biodegradable substance that is naturally absorbed by the body. It is identical to a natural component of bone and teeth and therefore no reaction or rejection issues. Before its popularity in aesthetic medicine, it was long in use in various other healthcare fields. It is commonly used to treat issues such as stress incontinence, to encourage bone regrowth in reconstruction procedures or as a building block for cheek, chin or jaw implants.

The unique dual action of Radiesse has also led to it becoming one of the most well-researched dermal fillers worldwide. Since it’s FDA approval for aesthetic medicine in 2006, an abundance of clinical studies has been performed providing evidence of its high-tolerability, reliable results and well-established safety profile.
