What is RF Microneedling?
RF microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses a hand-held device, combining the technology of fractional radiofrequency with microneedling. Standard microneedling involves the penetration of ultrafine needles into the dermal layers of the skin. This creates micro-wounds that trigger the natural regenerative capabilities of the skin, increasing production of collagen and elastin fibres. RF microneedling (RF stands for “radiofrequency”) combines this rejuvenating approach with targeted pulses of radiofrequency heat that is emitted by the tips of the ultrafine needles.
These ultrafine needles are semi-insulated, meaning they can target delivery of high-energy radiofrequency heat directly to deep dermal layers of the skin. This further enhances the wound-area created, thereby increasing the regenerative responses of the skin. This combination approach means we can gently yet effectively target and remodel collagen at levels usually associated with more aggressive ablative techniques.
Does RF Microneedling Hurt?
RF microneedling is not a painful process. Before each procedure a topical, local anaesthetic will be applied to the skin to minimise any discomfort. At most, you may feel a stinging or a mild burning sensation, together with light pressure, as the device passes over your skin.
The radiofrequency microneedling device creates minimal damage to the epidermis – the top layer of the skin. This means there is no superficial wounding, and the recovery is considerably shorter compared to other rejuvenating techniques, such as CO2 laser resurfacing.
Is RF Microneedling Suitable For Sensitive Skin?
Due to the minimally invasive technique, RF microneedling is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. With multiple needle configurations, customisable energy settings and multiple radiofrequency modes, our skilled aestheticians are able to tailor the device to achieve optimal performance for all skin types, body locations and targeted areas of concern.
How Long Will It Take To See Results Following A Microneedling RF Treatment?
Allowing time for the swelling and redness to subside, rejuvenating results from a radiofrequency microneedling session can be seen as early as two weeks post-treatment. Maximum results, however, are seen after 6-12 months, as this gives the body ample time to produce and organise the deep collagen and elastin fibres that give skin its taut elasticity.
Who Will Perform My Microneedling RF Treatment?
RF microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that will be performed by a highly skilled, well-trained aesthetician. As with all dermatological procedures, understanding the anatomy of the skin, as well as the application of the device, is key in predicting outcomes and responses to treatment. With this knowledge in hand, our trained professionals can give you expert advice and provide you with a bespoke treatment tailored to your needs, ensuring you get the maximum benefit out of every treatment. At NEO Health Clinic, we have the latest radiofrequency microneedling technologies available. The New Potenza system has now set the standard for effective and safe technology and Neo is one of very few clinics in London to be able to offer this treatment.
